Our Shopify Development Services

Everything you need to launch and grow a successful Shopify store.

Custom Theme Development

We build bespoke Shopify themes from scratch or extensively customise existing themes to match your brand identity. Our custom themes are built with Liquid, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript: fully optimised for speed, SEO, and conversions. Every theme is mobile-first, accessible, and designed to showcase your products beautifully. We don't use generic templates. Your store will be unique to your brand.

Store Setup & Migration

Whether you're launching a new Shopify store or migrating from WooCommerce, Magento, BigCommerce, or another platform, we handle the entire process. We migrate products, customers, orders, and SEO data (URLs, redirects, meta tags) to ensure zero traffic loss. Our migration process includes thorough testing and quality assurance before launch.

Custom App & Feature Development

Need functionality that doesn't exist in the Shopify App Store? We build custom Shopify apps and features using the Shopify API, Remix, and Node.js. From custom product configurators and subscription systems to loyalty programmes and advanced filtering, we develop solutions built for your specific business requirements.

Speed & Performance Optimisation

A one-second delay in page load reduces conversions by 7%. We optimise your Shopify store for blazing-fast performance: image compression, lazy loading, CSS/JS minification, app audit (removing bloat), and critical rendering path optimisation. Our stores consistently score 90+ on Google PageSpeed Insights.

Checkout & Conversion Optimisation

We optimise every step of the purchase journey, from product discovery to checkout completion. This includes upsell and cross-sell implementations, trust badges, urgency elements, streamlined checkout flows, abandoned cart recovery, and A/B testing. Our conversion-focused approach typically increases revenue per visitor by 25-40%.

SEO-First Development

Every store we build is optimised for search engines from day one. We implement clean URL structures, proper heading hierarchies, schema markup (Product, BreadcrumbList, FAQ), optimised meta tags, fast load times, and mobile-first design. Our development approach gives your store a head start in organic rankings. Learn more about our <a href='/services/shopify-seo' class='text-teal hover:underline'>Shopify SEO services</a>.

Third-Party Integrations

We integrate your Shopify store with the tools your business depends on: email marketing platforms (Klaviyo, Mailchimp), accounting software (Xero, QuickBooks), shipping providers (Royal Mail, DPD, DHL), ERP systems, CRMs, and payment gateways. Smooth integrations automate workflows and reduce manual effort.

Ongoing Support & Maintenance

After launch, we provide ongoing support and maintenance to keep your store running smoothly. This includes theme updates, bug fixes, new feature development, app updates, security monitoring, and performance optimisation. We're your long-term Shopify development partner.

A Shopify Development Agency Built Around Commerce

We are a Shopify development company rather than a general web agency with a Shopify page, and being a specialist Shopify development company is what lets us take on the parts of the platform generalists avoid. Everything we build is commerce first, which means conversion rate, page speed and search visibility are treated as requirements rather than as things to look at after launch.

Custom Shopify development covers the full range: bespoke themes, custom apps, Shopify Functions, checkout extensibility and headless commerce builds on the Storefront API. Our Shopify Plus developers work on larger accounts with expansion stores, B2B storefronts and Shopify Markets, where Shopify Plus development becomes as much about systems and governance as about front-end code.

Shopify web development and Shopify migration make up most of our workload. Migration in particular is where we differ from most build-only agencies: because we run an SEO practice alongside development, a Shopify migration is planned with URL mapping, redirects and ranking preservation designed in from the first week rather than handed to someone else after launch. That Shopify migration and SEO preservation work is planned jointly with our Shopify SEO team, which is the practical reason our replatforming projects tend not to lose traffic.

The reason we build the way we do is scalable ecommerce. A store that works at 200 orders a month and breaks at 2,000 has not been built, it has been assembled. Scalable ecommerce means the theme still renders fast when the catalogue triples, the integrations queue rather than time out under load, the checkout survives a campaign spike, and adding a market or a B2B channel is a configuration change rather than a rebuild. Headless commerce is one route to that and often not the right one, so we say when it is not.

Hire Expert Shopify Developers: What You Are Actually Buying

Most people who set out to hire Shopify developers are choosing between three quite different things, and the pricing makes them look more similar than they are. It is worth being clear about the trade-offs before you brief anybody, including us.

A freelance Shopify developer is the cheapest route and can be excellent for a defined piece of work: a theme customisation, a bug, a single integration. The risks are availability and breadth. Custom Shopify development that spans theme work, a custom app, a data migration and analytics rarely sits inside one freelancer's skill set, and a single person is a single point of failure at the exact moment a launch goes wrong.

A Shopify development agency costs more per hour and buys you range and continuity: Shopify theme development, Shopify app development, migration, integrations, performance and conversion rate optimisation under one plan, with more than one person who understands your store. This is the right shape when the store is the business rather than a side channel.

An in-house developer makes sense once the store generates enough revenue that somebody needs to be available every day, which for most UK brands means well into seven figures. Below that the salary exceeds what the work actually requires, and you end up with a developer maintaining a store that changes twice a month.

What to ask before you hire. Can they show stores they built, live, that you can inspect? Do they work in version control with a staging environment, or edit the live theme? Who owns the code and the Shopify Partner access when the project ends? Is SEO part of the build or a separate conversation afterwards? That last one matters more than it sounds, because a beautifully built store that lost its rankings in migration is a net loss, and it is the most common expensive mistake we are called in to repair.

How we work. Fixed-scope projects with a written specification and a staged payment schedule, or a monthly retainer for continuous development where the roadmap is ongoing. Every project runs through Shopify CLI and Git with a staging store, so nothing is edited live and every change is reversible. You keep the code, the documentation and the access. Our Shopify developers are the people you speak to, not a sales layer in front of a delivery team you never meet.

What We Build on Shopify and Shopify Plus

We are Shopify developers rather than generalists who also take Shopify work. That shows up in the parts of the platform most agencies avoid: Functions, checkout extensibility, the Storefront API and Markets.

Custom Shopify theme development

Bespoke themes built in Liquid, HTML, CSS and JavaScript, or a heavily customised premium theme where budget favours it. We build against your brand rather than fighting a template, and we keep the theme editable so your team can change content without a developer.

Shopify app development

Custom Shopify apps built with the Shopify Admin API, Storefront API and GraphQL, using Node.js with React or Vue.js, for functionality the Shopify App Store does not cover. Private apps for internal workflows, public apps for distribution, and embedded apps that sit inside the Shopify admin your team already uses.

Shopify Functions

Server-side customisation of discounts, payment methods, delivery options and cart validation through Shopify Functions. This is how bespoke B2B pricing rules, volume discounts and complex shipping logic are implemented on modern Shopify without hacking the cart.

Checkout extensibility

Checkout customisation through checkout extensibility, the supported replacement for the old checkout.liquid approach. Upsells, custom fields, trust badges, delivery instructions and B2B purchase order fields, all built to survive Shopify's upgrades rather than breaking at the next release.

Headless Shopify development

Headless builds using the Storefront API and GraphQL with Hydrogen or a framework of your choice, where you need a storefront experience Shopify's theme layer cannot deliver. We are honest about when headless is worth the extra complexity and when it is not.

Shopify Markets and international

Multi-currency, multi-language and multi-region selling configured through Shopify Markets, with the domain and hreflang structure set up so international SEO works rather than creating duplicate content across regions.

Shopify or Shopify Plus: Which You Actually Need

Shopify Plus is the enterprise tier, and it is a significant step up in cost. It is genuinely worth it for some businesses and a waste of money for others, so it is worth being clear about what you get.

Plus adds higher API rate limits, up to nine additional expansion stores for international or brand separation, Shopify Functions with wider allowances, B2B on Shopify with company accounts and price lists, more granular checkout customisation, Launchpad for scheduled sales events, and a dedicated launch engineer.

In practice, the trigger points are these: you are trading above roughly £1 million a year, you need genuine B2B alongside direct-to-consumer, you sell in several regions that need separate storefronts, or your discount and shipping logic has outgrown what standard Shopify allows. If none of those apply, standard Shopify with well-built custom development will serve you better, and we will say so.

We build on both, and we have moved clients in both directions. Choosing the right tier is part of the engagement, not an upsell.

Migration and Replatforming to Shopify

Moving from Magento, Adobe Commerce, WooCommerce, BigCommerce or a custom platform is the highest-risk project an ecommerce business takes on. Done carelessly it costs you rankings and revenue for months. Done properly, most clients see no meaningful organic dip at all.

1

Audit and inventory

We catalogue every URL, product, variant, collection, customer record, order history entry and content page on your existing Magento, Adobe Commerce, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Volusion or custom platform, so nothing is discovered missing after go-live.

2

Data migration

Products, variants, images, customers, order history and reviews moved across with validation at each step. Order history matters more than most people expect, because it carries your customer lifetime value data.

3

URL mapping and 301 redirects

Every old URL mapped to its new equivalent and implemented as a 301 redirect. This is the single most important step for preserving rankings, and the one most commonly rushed. We map redirects before the build, not after launch.

4

SEO preservation

Meta titles and descriptions, heading structure, structured data, internal links, canonical tags and image alt text carried across deliberately. We benchmark rankings and organic traffic before launch so any post-migration dip is measured rather than guessed at, and recovered quickly.

5

Testing and launch

Full checkout testing across payment methods and devices, staged DNS cut-over at a low-traffic window, and monitoring through Google Search Console for crawl errors and index coverage in the days after launch.

6

Post-launch support

Thirty days of included support after go-live, because migrations surface edge cases no test plan catches. After that you can move onto a support retainer or manage it in-house.

Because we run an SEO practice alongside development, migrations are planned with search visibility as a first-class requirement rather than something handed to a different team afterwards. If you want the detail on that side, see our Shopify SEO services.

Integrations and Custom Apps

ERP, CRM and POS

Two-way sync between Shopify and the systems that run your business, including NetSuite, SAP, Sage, Dynamics, Salesforce, HubSpot and Shopify POS. Stock, orders, customers and pricing stay consistent without anyone rekeying data.

Marketing and support tooling

Klaviyo for email and SMS flows, Gorgias for helpdesk with order context in the ticket, plus loyalty, reviews and subscription platforms wired in properly rather than bolted on and left to drift.

Subscriptions with Recharge

Recurring revenue built on Recharge or Shopify Subscriptions, covering subscription products, customer portals, dunning and the reporting you need to actually manage churn.

Payments and Shop Pay

Shopify Payments and Shop Pay configured for the fastest possible checkout, alongside the alternative methods UK shoppers expect, including Klarna, Clearpay, PayPal and Apple Pay.

Shopify Flow automation

Operational automation through Shopify Flow: fraud holds, tagging rules, inventory alerts, VIP customer routing and back-in-stock workflows. Small automations that quietly remove hours of manual admin every week.

Feeds and marketplaces

Google Merchant Center feeds built properly for Shopping campaigns, plus Meta, Amazon and eBay channels where they suit your catalogue.

Site Speed, Core Web Vitals and Conversion Rate

Shopify stores get slow in predictable ways: too many apps injecting scripts into every page, oversized hero imagery, render-blocking third-party tags, and themes carrying features you never enabled. The result is poor Core Web Vitals, which costs you both rankings and conversions.

We audit the app stack first, because removing three unused apps usually beats any amount of code tuning. From there we work through image formats and sizing, lazy loading, critical CSS, deferred scripts, font loading strategy and Liquid rendering efficiency. Our builds routinely score 90 or above in Google PageSpeed Insights on mobile.

Speed is only half of conversion rate optimisation. We also work on product page layout and information hierarchy, cart and checkout friction, upsell and cross-sell placement, trust signals, search and filtering behaviour, and mobile navigation. Changes are tested rather than assumed, because the intuitive answer is wrong often enough to matter.

Areas We Serve

Shopify builds are delivered remotely, and have been since long before that was normal. We run projects over shared documentation, staging environments and scheduled calls, which works as well for a client two streets away as one four hundred miles north.

We have built and migrated stores for brands in Edinburgh, Manchester, Bristol, Brighton, Leeds, Nottingham and Cardiff, among others. For larger projects we are happy to meet in person at the kick-off and at launch, which in practice is the point where being in the same room genuinely helps.

Shopify Development FAQs

What clients ask before commissioning a Shopify build, grouped by topic.

What is the difference between Shopify and Shopify Plus?
Plus is the enterprise tier. It adds higher API limits, up to nine expansion stores, wider Shopify Functions allowances, B2B with company accounts and price lists, deeper checkout customisation, Launchpad for scheduled sales, and dedicated support. It is worth it above roughly £1 million in annual revenue, or where you need genuine B2B, multi-region storefronts, or discount logic beyond standard Shopify. Below that, standard Shopify with good custom development is usually the better value.
Will migrating to Shopify affect my SEO?
Yes, if the migration is handled badly, and this is where most damage happens. The critical work is mapping every old URL to its new equivalent with 301 redirects, carrying across meta data, headings, structured data and internal links, and benchmarking rankings before launch so any dip is measured and recovered rather than noticed months later. We plan migrations with SEO as a requirement from day one, and we monitor Google Search Console closely for weeks afterwards.
What technologies do you use for Shopify development?
Liquid for theming, alongside HTML, CSS and JavaScript. For apps and headless builds we use Node.js, React and GraphQL against the Shopify Admin and Storefront APIs, and Vue.js where a project or an existing team is already invested in it. Shopify Functions for server-side discount, shipping and payment logic. Shopify CLI and version control for every project, with staging environments so nothing is edited live. Where a project touches other stacks we also work in PHP and Laravel.
Can you integrate Shopify with our ERP, CRM or POS?
Yes, this is a large part of what we do. We have built two-way integrations with NetSuite, SAP, Sage, Microsoft Dynamics, Salesforce, HubSpot and Shopify POS, covering stock levels, orders, customer records and pricing. Where a supported connector exists we use it. Where it does not, or where it does not handle your rules, we build a custom middleware app against the Shopify Admin API.
Do you provide ongoing support after launch?
Yes. Every build includes 30 days of support after go-live. Beyond that we offer support retainers covering bug fixes, feature development, app and theme updates, uptime monitoring, performance checks and priority response. Plenty of clients take a retainer for the first six months and then move to ad hoc support once the store settles.
Can you fix or take over an existing Shopify store?
Yes. A good share of our work is inheriting stores built by someone else, whether that means fixing a broken build, unpicking an over-engineered app stack, improving speed, or adding functionality the original developer could not. We start with a paid audit so you get a clear picture of the code you own before committing to a larger project.
How much does Shopify development cost in the UK?
Yes. A customised premium theme build typically runs £3,000 to £8,000. A fully bespoke Shopify theme is usually £8,000 to £25,000 depending on the number of templates and the complexity of the design. Shopify Plus builds, custom app development and headless projects start around £25,000. Migrations are priced on catalogue size and data complexity rather than a flat rate. We quote fixed price against a written scope, so you are not exposed to open-ended hourly billing.
How long does a Shopify build take?
A customised theme build is typically 3 to 5 weeks. A bespoke theme is 6 to 12 weeks. A migration from Magento, WooCommerce or BigCommerce is 8 to 16 weeks depending on catalogue size, integrations and how clean the source data is. Headless and Shopify Plus projects run longer. The single biggest variable is how quickly content, product data and feedback come back from your side.
Do you handle Shopify migration and SEO preservation together?
Yes, and it is the main reason clients choose us over a build-only agency. Shopify migration and SEO preservation are planned as one piece of work from week one: full URL inventory, every old URL mapped to its replacement, 301 redirects built and tested on staging before launch, metadata and structured data carried across deliberately, and a pre-launch benchmark of rankings and revenue so post-launch performance is measured rather than guessed. Our Shopify SEO team is involved during the build rather than called afterwards, which is why our replatforming projects tend not to lose organic traffic.
What is the difference between custom Shopify theme development and headless Shopify development?
Custom Shopify theme development means building a bespoke theme in Liquid on Shopify's standard front end. You get full design control, the platform handles rendering and hosting, and any Shopify developer can maintain it afterwards. It is the right answer for the large majority of stores. Headless Shopify development decouples the front end entirely, using the Storefront API with Hydrogen or another framework, and Shopify becomes the commerce back end only. It buys you complete front-end freedom and can be faster for complex experiences, at the cost of significantly more complexity, higher build and maintenance costs, and losing some native theme features. We recommend headless Shopify development when there is a specific requirement the theme layer genuinely cannot meet, and we say so plainly when there is not.
Should I use a custom theme or a template?
Yes. A customised premium theme is the right answer for most businesses under about £2 million in revenue. It is faster, cheaper, well tested, and gets you trading sooner. A bespoke theme makes sense when your brand experience is a genuine differentiator, when you need merchandising or product configuration a template cannot support, or when you are large enough that a percentage point of conversion rate justifies the investment. We will tell you honestly which one your situation calls for.
What is headless Shopify and do I need it?
Headless means the storefront is built as a separate application talking to Shopify through the Storefront API and GraphQL, rather than using Shopify's theme layer. It buys you complete front-end freedom and can improve performance, at the cost of significantly higher build and maintenance expense. It is justified for large catalogues, unusual storefront experiences, or when the store is one channel among several. For most UK businesses a well-built Liquid theme performs just as well for far less money, and we will say so.
