Project Overview
Ignition Law is an award-winning, innovative law firm specialising in advising startups, SMEs, and growing businesses across the UK. Built on WordPress, their website had strong brand recognition within the startup community but was underperforming dramatically in organic search. Their content-rich site had over 200 blog posts but poor technical SEO and no structured internal linking, meaning most of that content was wasted from an SEO perspective. In 6 months, we increased their organic traffic by 180%, achieved position 1 for 'startup solicitor London', and got them featured in Google AI Overviews for 5 legal queries, establishing them as a topical authority in startup law.
The Challenge
Ignition Law had a content goldmine that was completely untapped from an SEO perspective. Their WordPress site contained 200+ blog posts and guides about startup law, company formation, shareholder agreements, and funding rounds, but zero SEO strategy had been applied. Their technical SEO was severely lacking: the Yoast SEO plugin was installed but never configured, permalink structures were suboptimal, page speed averaged 5.2s due to a bloated Elementor theme with excessive plugins, 35 pages had missing meta descriptions, and their internal linking was essentially random. Despite having content that could answer hundreds of legal questions searchers were asking, they ranked on page 1 for only 4 keywords. Competitor firms like Harper James and Seedlegals were capturing all the organic traffic for startup legal queries.
Our Strategy
Phase 1. Audit & Research: We conducted a comprehensive WordPress SEO audit finding 35 pages with missing meta descriptions, 18 broken internal links, 12 redirect chains, an unconfigured Yoast plugin, and 23 instances of keyword cannibalisation across their 200+ blog posts. We identified 150+ keyword opportunities in the startup law niche. Phase 2. Technical & On-Page: We properly configured Rank Math (replacing Yoast), fixed all technical issues, implemented proper permalink structures, resolved keyword cannibalisation by consolidating 15 overlapping posts, and reduced page speed from 5.2s to 1.9s by replacing 8 heavy plugins and optimising the Elementor theme. Added LegalService and Article schema markup across all pages. Phase 3. Content Restructuring: We reorganised their 200+ posts into 8 topical clusters (company formation, shareholder agreements, employment law, IP protection, etc.) with pillar pages linking to supporting articles. Created 6 new comprehensive guides targeting high-volume keywords. Phase 4. Authority Building & Ongoing: Secured backlinks from 12 startup ecosystem publications (TechCrunch UK, Startups.co.uk, Business Insider UK), implemented structured FAQ sections targeting AI Overview opportunities, and established monthly reporting tracking keyword clusters, traffic, and lead attribution.
